The Background

Between 2005 to 2012, InLoop employed the services of external providers. During this time InLoop experienced frequent outages and periods of downtime, forcing them to move from one provider to the next.

To add to the frustration, the lack of hands-on technical experience and responsiveness provided by these hosting companies increased the time taken to resolve issues and get services back online. In many cases, InLoop’s in-house technical staff had to provide solutions so suppliers could execute and help resolve issues.

The Requirement

As InLoop provide client-critical services with a highly variable peak load and continued strong growth, reliability and scalability were core requirements in vendor selection. InLoop needed a reliable hosting provider to partner with and not a set-and-forget service. They wanted access to experienced and proactive technical staff, who were knowledgeable and available 24/7.

InLoop underwent a thorough research process and Bulletproof was selected as having demonstrated a strong understanding of both business and technical requirements and commitment to high levels of service and support.

The Solution

May 2012 – September 2014
From May 2012 – September 2014, Bulletproof supplied InLoop with VM hosting and Enterprise level management to ensure services were always online and available.

September 2014 – Today
In 2014, InLoop embarked on the journey to migrate their Flexischools and Intrapay applications to the Cloud in Amazon Web Services (AWS). InLoop realised that they needed to take advantage of Cloud to effectively service the demand for their application. Scalability, High Availability and Performance were key considerations for the move.

InLoop opted for a hybrid approach, migrating front-end processes to the Cloud first and leaving the database. The environment is built using AWS CloudFormation with custom configurations implemented by Bulletproof.

Phase 1 was completed in September 2014.

Auto-scaling will save 35-45% on hosting costs

InLoop is now paying for what they use, reducing overall costs and risks of overuse.

Peak to off-peak ratio of 55:1

With a scalable environment, InLoop is now able to optimise usage for performance and availability.

Access to technical experts

Technical and development teams at InLoop have access to Bulletproof’s Cloud experts to help troubleshoot, advise and discuss solutions.

Enhanced user experience for over 600,000 users

InLoop no longer have to work overnight to ensure their application is ready for peak times.

Innovation & DevOps focus

InLoop can now focus on innovation and their DevOps strategy, relying on Bulletproof’s Cloud expertise.

Strategic Cloud partners

InLoop now have a long-term strategic partner to support them in their business and product development strategies.

The Future

The second phase of the project is to migrate the database for a full Cloud environment. In addition, InLoop will use AWS’ CloudFormation to support a full collaborative DevOps model. This will allow InLoop to cost-effectively spin up and spin down dedicated environments for feature and performance testing.
